All Pope Francis said was: Don’t execute gay people. FaithfulCatholics™ went nuts. (Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome Vol. XXXIII.)

Fake Site News promotes Fr. Gerald Murray’s latest fit against the pope on Warmed Over With Raymond Arroyo. Murray and Fake Site are huge promoters of what they call “anti-sodomy laws.” They don’t say they want gays to be executed. They don’t say they don’t want gays to be executed. They don’t bring it up at all, as though it wasn’t the context of the pope’s remarks in his interview with the Associated Press. But it was the context. I confess I don’t know how you can neglect that context when discussing the pope’s insistence that homosexuality is “not a crime.” But they don’t mention it. At best this is sloppy.

Of course Pete Buttigieg is “legally married,” Fr. Martin. That’s not the point.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • January 26, 2023 • LGBT Issues; Sacraments

Bill Donohue’s argument is that a marriage between two men (or two women) is impossible in natural law. Another way of putting that is to say that marriage has an ontological character such that two people of the same sex can not enter into it, any more than a square can enter into roundness. The law can declare a square round and make it henceforth “legally round,” but the square remains angular in fact. That’s Donohue’s point. If Fr. Martin wants to disagree, let him do so, but he should disagree with what Donohue is actually arguing.

Pro Marx, Contra Marx.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • April 4, 2022 • Blind Guides & False Prophets; LGBT Issues; Moral Theology

So I was going to write a post about Cardinal Marx and his dumb remarks recently about how Catholics are perfectly free to be flexible with the Catechism, especially when it comes to those troublesome paragraphs on homosexuality. Then I saw that Bishop Strickland opened his yap about it on Twitter, and so I guess I have to sweep up the detritis of Strickland’s error before I turn to Marx’s. Strickland saw the story at Catholic World Report and, apparently without exercising any theological forethought, tweeted that Cardinal Marx had “left the Catholic faith.

Pope “dashes hopes of gay Catholics.” Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome, Vol. XXIX.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • March 15, 2021 • LGBT Issues; Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome

Gay Catholics apparently have a remarkable ability to keep being shocked by what they’ve heard over and over, as though they’ve been cruelly misled. “Everyone already knows,” we always hear, “that the Church is against abortion and gay sex.” I’ve had occasion to say these words myself to a certain faction of heavy-handed Reminders. But articles like today’s in the Washington Post make me sympathize with Catholics who spend their days and nights reminding. The pope says the Church can’t bless same-sex unions and gay Catholics wail that their “hopes” have been “dashed.”

No, Austrian bishops, the Church may not “bless” same-sex unions.

Catholic News Agency reports that the Austrian bishops are agitating for the Church to give a “formal, liturgical blessing” to “homosexual couples.” (It never ends. The answer is no, but it never ends.) Their committee on the liturgy asked for a book to be written explaining how such a thing may be done. The title of the book is The Benediction of Same-Sex Partnerships. CNA does not say whether the book limits blessings to “partners” who are celibate. It does not matter, in any case, because the Church has ruled it out and there’s no room to wiggle.

Don’t cite Leviticus 18 if you’re going to ignore Leviticus 19.

You can’t say that welcoming the stranger is the “least” commandment in the first place, or somehow not an abomination as opposed to gay sex. Remember the parable of the sheep and the goats. For every stranger you do not welcome, you are not welcoming Jesus. If you do not welcome the stranger, you reject Christ. I think it’s safe to say that’s an abomination too. So if you’re going to be silent about what’s going on at the border with many thousands of migrants being locked up in concentration camps, then you also need to be quiet about gay sex.

Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome Vol. XIX. In which Fake Site News and CRISIS!!! misrepresent Pope Francis on civil unions.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • October 4, 2017 • LGBT Issues; Moral Theology; Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome

Pope Francis Derangment Syndrome has gotten so bad that Scanlon at Crisis!!! and Baklinski at Fake Site News can quote the pope accurately but still attribute to those words a heretical meaning vastly at odds with what they plainly say. They engage in calumny in plain sight, and hope that their audience won’t notice. The pope says, “Marriage is only between a man and a woman, a union between two men is something else,” and Fake Site and Crisis!!! report: Pope approves of same-sex unions! They’re not trying to hide their deception any more.

Bishop DiLorenzo responds to Tim Kaine on same-sex marriage.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • September 14, 2016 • In the News; LGBT Issues; Moral Theology; Politics

Clear, brief, and no-nonsense. Though some, undoubtedly, will want to kvetch that DiLorenzo does not mention Kaine by name, he does indicate that his words were prompted by “recent statements from the campaign trail.” Kaine’s words had prompted myself, as well as others, to call upon the bishop to correct the senator. If Kaine wishes to continue his support of same-sex marriage, let him do so, but let him do so as a dissident Catholic — not under the guise of a “devout” one. A devout Catholic does not publicly defy the teaching of the Church. End stop.

It is time for “devout Catholic” Tim Kaine to be publicly corrected.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • September 11, 2016 • In the News; LGBT Issues; Moral Theology; Politics

Sen. Kaine, in remarks at the annual gala of the Human Rights campaign—McClatchy reports on it—said he believes the Church may eventually change its position on same-sex marriage. “I think it’s going to change,” Kaine says, “because my church also teaches me about a creator who, in the first chapter of Genesis, surveyed the entire world, including mankind, and said, ‘It is very good.’ ” So? What does that mean? I’m sorry, Sen. Kaine, but you are causing confusion and scandal. God said “it is good,” but he also created them male and female for complementarity.

Gendering God to suit an agenda: A reply to Rabbi Mark Sameth.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • August 13, 2016 • Exegesis; LGBT Issues

At the New York Times, Rabbi Mark Sameth asks pertly: “Is God Transgender?” Here’s the short answer: No. God has neither sex nor gender. The former is a biological construct, created by God; and the latter is a linguistic construct, created by man. (See what I did there?) God, being transcendent, is outside both. You can’t gender God. But Sameth attempts to do just that, which is why a longer answer is required here. After some introductory paragraphs involving a cousin who had sex-reassignment surgery, he turns to a few biblical texts.

Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome XVIII. Wherein LGBT groups lament the pope’s “dangerous ignorance” on gender identity.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • August 6, 2016 • LGBT Issues; Pope Francis Derangement Syndrome

Does Ms. Duddy-Burke really think that the pope is advocating violence? Does she really think that there are people sitting around waiting for the pope to say something about gender identity that they can then use as an excuse to go on a rampage in clubs or bathrooms? That, if only the pope would make a bold departure on these points, such people would suddenly experience a wave of brotherly love, hold hands, and sing Jackie DeShannon? LGBT individuals will not be safe unless the pope changes Church teaching? This is strange.

Answers for same-sex marriage apologist Matthew Vines.

But there are many pressing questions that non-affirming Christians frequently do not address.” Oh, well, then! These questions have never been answered before! Remember Lot’s Wife.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • June 29, 2015 • Exegesis; In the News; LGBT Issues; Moral Theology

It is not marriage, what five people forced upon us all on Friday, and can not be marriage any more than a square can be round or a hexagon rectangular. What five people — a majority by one — forced upon us all on Friday was a game of make-believe, a lie. Words mean things, and marriage is not just a social arrangement entered into by any two people who may choose. Marriage is ontological, rooted in God’s design of the human person for unity and procreation. Man was not designed to fit with man, nor woman with woman; and we may not design our own reality.

Frank Bruni, of New York Times, hectors Christians: “Bow to the enlightenments of modernity!”

Mr. Bruni starts off, as do most leftists who will have their own way, with a pompous and condescending sneer: I’m here to free you, you poor benighted silly little thing, from that needless little bitty blue blanket you cling to. There now, isn’t it better now that you don’t have to carry that foolish heavy burden around? No, you don’t have to thank me. Then, after that haughty and oily display, the leftist comes out of the closet and screams his brownshirt demands: “Bow to the enlightenments of modernity!” Kneel before Zod!

Josh Alcorn bans The Vagina Monologues.

BY: Scott Eric Alt • January 16, 2015 • In the News; LGBT Issues

Well, the Vagina Monologues is no more. Its sexual politics no longer are inclusive enough. So after a run of nineteeen straight years, Mt. Holyoke College has canceled the play on the grounds that it excludes women without vaginas. The peculiar phrase “women without vaginas” is meant to include both women without vaginas and men who think they’re women. Ms. Brown explains all this for us. “A trans woman is a woman, full stop, but she may have a penis.” Oh. So what are we to conclude from all this? Why, that the Vagina Monologues is “transphobic”!
