I
f you can convince me that Donald Trump will be better than Hillary Clinton on abortion, then I will vote for him. But here are the arguments you can not use:
- You cannot make “Trump has promised” appeals. If all you have is what Trump has “promised” to do, you have nothing. Trump claims to have changed his position. How do I know this is not mere expediency as he trumps for votes? Why are Trump’s mere promises enough to make me overlook everything else? “Trump said it, I believe it, that settles it” is no argument. It’s a pinky swear.
- You cannot tell me how horrible Hillary will be on abortion. I know this. The question is not whether Hillary will be bad, but whether Trump will be better.
- You can’t tell me how horrible abortion is. I know. To focus on the horrors of abortion only avoids the question: Will Trump be better? How do I know, beyond what he has “promised”?
But by all means, if you can prove to me that Trump will be better than Hillary on abortion, without using any of the above arguments, I will vote for him. The combox is yours. Go.
